Oompa,
is it your 5000th post that makes you so effusive ?
yeah i know....so i like "introductions that arouse interests" on my subject lines!
but the danger is at the end of this post, not the beginning.
this is actually a very serious thread for oompa... and not my first, but i apologize in advance for it being the longest i have ever posted.
Oompa,

What are your chances of getting your hand taken next week?
In fact they are not small because :
- they are short of Commentators
- they are all too happy to see me commenting again after I remained silent for about a year
-Some elders want to see how far I go in apostate comments. I try to always remain within the boundaries of what I can justify with scriptures.

This is clearly a not so subtle effort to GUILT the flock into the same menatlly, emotionally, phyisically and spiritually UNHEALTHY exertion of their time and energy
Quite obvious, ATJ. As I've broken my spectacles, I couldn't read the article and I remained listening and thinking during the WT study. What came to my mind as glaring evidence, and I told it in a comment, was the fact that the standard which is set out in the NT is incredibly high because it is meant exclusively for people who were (are) ready to give up every physical enjoyment to gain a disembodied heavenly life. So, the role models for the "other sheep" is to be found not in the NT but in the OT, with people like Abraham who lead a more balanced and normal life. Needless to say, my comment was stongly criticized by some elders who found that it was much too demotivating to the R&F.
Don't know if we can call them loaded words, they like "As it were"

But the 144,000, receive immortality starting with 1918 by resurrection and than instantly upon death. So how more perfect are they than the non-anointed who take 1,000 years to qualify?
Even within the anointed population there are different treatments, as we can see in the jan 1st 2007 WT Question from readers article which deals with the (so called) initial and final sealing of the anointed ones. The WTS has contrived these notions whereby the anointed people in the past got an initial sealing from the Holy Spirit at some stage in their life and, afterward, got a final sealing just before their death, after they had successfully gone over plenty of trials. Now, we find in the QFR article that the remaining remnant, i.e. those who will still be on earth to see the GT, are treated much more softly since they will get their definitive sealing BEFORE the beginning of the GT that is, before they will have undergone any serious trial.
It looks as if these members of the remaining remnant, in the system they have set up, try to secure for themselves a snug salvation and heavenly reward without experiencing much trouble, whereas anointed JWs in past times were required, if necessary, to give away their lifes to prove their faithfulness. One can't but be puzzled by such a discrimination within the JW theological construction.
i allready miss the style of the old jwd.. .
it seems like there are way more ads here, and the thread lists .
and trees seem cluttered and hard to scan.. .
there are way more ads here,
and ads are in french, just for me, those advertisers are so kind and thoughtful...

My first post on JWN is for you, Grace, and Bonne et heureuse année 2009 !
what ingredients go into making someone become a witness?
When I started "studying" with JWs at age 26, I knew, and my parents discerned, that I was doing it in order to react to my catholic upbringing which had left bitter memories, having had to live in boarding schools in tender years when I needed my parents, confronted there with some mentally or physically brutal members of religious catholic orders.
Also, I thought, and still think that, somehow, a religion that puts its teaching in words and sentences accessible to simple people must have God's approval, even if it is not the only necessary condition, whereas catholic mysteries are indigestible.
Third, after having met on a weekly basis with a JW in France without attending even one meeting in 18 months, I landed on my own in London and, after diverse types of experiences, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't associate with better people than JWs.
When I was an active witness, I never adhered to their fancy teachings about modern days fulfilment of prophecies but I thought that since God was allowing a people to wear His name, He was engaging His repute in the entreprise and therefore must have backed this organization, lest He would make it impossible for any future organization to exploit the same religious niche as this one if the latter were found false.
reputation system
Simon, don't you fear that this system will open the way to lynching or, conversely, to cheap popularity ? IMO former JWs should be, more than others, wary of crowd effects.

18. A humiliating end awaits determined opposers of Jehovah's sovereignty. God's Word reveals that those who" do not obey the good news" --and for this reason are executed at Armageddon--will suffer "everlasting destruction." (2 Thess. 1:7-9) Their destruction and the survival of those who worship Jehovah in truth will be convincing evidence that Jehovah is the only true God. In the new world, that great victory will not be forgotten. Those who come back in the "resurrection of ... the righteous and the unrighteous" will learn of Jehovah's great act. (Acts 24:15)
I said during the WT study that we could see in this paragraph an attempt from the Society to find an answer to the perturbing question re. Who will be saved at A. On the two extreme ends the answer is plain : determined opposers will be definitively destroyed, Jah's worshippers will pass. In the middle grey area there are billions of people who fit in none of these categories. For those, the society reserves death with resurrection and teaching on the other side. Harsh as this position is, it represents at least an attempt to bring forth a solution to an important problem within the WTS's logic, with a semblance of justice. The two most ignorant and fanatical elders reacted, one saying that there is no such thing as neutrality in connexion with Jehovah, the other reminding that in ancient times all those who were not in the ark were destroyed. Nice to see such shepperds' loving care for their neighbours.
